What failed
ChatGPT, Codex, Claude and Grok returned errors for most users from about 15:00 UTC. Cursor was hit downstream. Gemini stayed up despite a spike in reports.
The timeline
Anthropic's status page logs elevated errors on Mythos 5.1, Fable 5.1 and the Opus line from 13:26 to 16:23 UTC. OpenAI said a fix was applied and services were recovering within the hour.
The theories
Coverage points at Microsoft Azure, which all three use, but Azure's own status stayed operational. X favourites: a nation-state attack, or a stunt before OpenAI's Astra launch. None is confirmed.
