Coyote vs. Acme opens today. The completed film survived a planned shelving.

Warner Bros. shelved the finished movie in 2023. Public backlash reopened a path to sale, and Ketchup Entertainment is now releasing it theatrically.

Why it disappeared

The roughly $70 million live-action and animation hybrid was completed in 2022, then shelved when Warner Bros. decided a tax write-off was preferable to release.

How it returned

After public and industry pressure, Warner Bros. offered the film for sale. Independent distributor Ketchup Entertainment acquired it for about $50 million.

What happens now

The film opens in US theaters August 28. Its rescue shows that a completed shelved project can still find a buyer, but only after rights and distribution change hands.
