Jay-Z plays London tonight. The room is arguing about how fast it sold.

A 30-year celebration show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 4 September, preceded by a Trafalgar Square pop-up. One observation about sales turned into a legacy debate.

The observation

Ronke Lawal wrote that Jay-Z 'may very well have overestimated his current popularity or underestimated the current economic climate'. It passed 695,000 views. She later added she likes him as an artist and was only surprised the shows did not sell out sooner.

The pop-up

Footage of Jay-Z at his Trafalgar Square pop-up passed 763,000 views. One reply room reads the walkabout as 'hoping to whip up a frenzy' and says a Kanye or 50 Cent appearance would have been chaos.

What is not known

No sales figures are public. The stadium's own announcement from July passed 444,000 views. Whether the show sold out, and when, is the unresolved question in every thread.
