A 3.6% COLA is circulating as next year's increase. It is an outside forecast; Social Security says the official adjustment will be announced in October.

Current forecast

The Senior Citizens League projects 3.6%, down from its 3.8% July forecast. That is not an SSA decision and can still change.

How it is set

SSA compares the average CPI-W for July, August and September with the relevant prior third-quarter average, then rounds the change to the nearest tenth of a percent.

What is known

July CPI-W was 3.4% above July 2025, but two months of the official calculation remain. SSA says it will announce the 2027 COLA in October 2026.
